This sports facility was a proud addition to the campus of San Isidro I.S.D.. With the limited budget of only $1.8 million in a rural area, the challenge of this project was in finding an aesthetic that could be achieved economically and still give the building the sense of importance that it demanded. With this in mind, I sought to express the buildings exterior as a superficial skin. The block veneer was used only to express focal points such as the main facade and the side entrances. The rest of the building is covered by more economical materials such as EIFS stucco and metal panel which appear to be layered behind the block veneer. This combination of material translated into a composition that communicates the buildings prominence as it is an important gathering point for the whole community.
